Artwork guide
We print exactly what you send, so a good file means a great print. Here's how to get your artwork print ready.
The short version
Send a PNG with a transparent background, at 300 DPI at the size you want printed, with spelling checked. For 3D printing, send an STL, 3MF or OBJ file in millimetres. Not sure? Use our free DTF gang sheet builder. It checks sharpness and backgrounds for you.
Checklist for every file
- Spelling and details checked. We don't proofread artwork.
- The right size. Make the file at the size it should print, or tell us the size in mm.
- Sharp enough. 300 DPI at print size is best, and below 150 DPI will look soft. Making a small or blurry file bigger doesn't add detail.
- Your own artwork, or artwork you have permission to print. No copyrighted logos, characters or brands without permission.
- Fonts outlined (converted to shapes) in PDF, SVG and AI files, so the text prints exactly as you designed it.
DTF transfers
- File type: PNG with a transparent background. PDF and SVG also work if the background is transparent.
- Backgrounds: DTF prints everything that isn't transparent, including white. A white box around your logo will print as a white box. Remove it, or use the builder's Remove background tool.
- Avoid soft effects: faded edges, glows, soft shadows and semi-transparent areas don't print well on DTF. Use solid colours and crisp edges.
- Fine details: keep lines at least 0.5 mm thick and small text at least 6 pt (about 2 mm tall), otherwise they may not stick to the fabric.
- Maximum width: 290 mm. Our sheets are 300 x 1000 mm with 5 mm margins on each side.
- Spacing: you don't need to add space around your designs. The gang sheet builder packs them tightly with 3 mm between prints, just enough to cut them out.
| Common print sizes (adults) | Width |
|---|---|
| Full front or back | 250 to 280 mm |
| Left chest / pocket logo | 80 to 100 mm |
| Sleeve | 70 to 90 mm |
| Kids' front | 180 to 220 mm |
| Caps and bags | 50 to 100 mm |

Sublimation mugs
- File type: PNG or JPG at 300 DPI. A background colour is fine here, because sublimation prints into the mug coating.
- Print area: a standard 11 oz mug wrap is about 200 x 85 mm. Keep text and faces at least 5 mm from the edges, and away from the handle area. Ask us for our exact mug template.
- Two-tone mugs: only the white area is printed. The coloured handle and inside stay their colour.
- White doesn't print: sublimation can't print white, so white parts of your design show the white mug.
- Magic mugs: the mug is black when cold and your design appears when it's filled with something hot. Bold, high-contrast designs and photos work best.
3D printing
- File type: STL, 3MF or OBJ, in millimetres.
- Print ready: the model must be solid (watertight / manifold), with walls at least 1.2 mm thick and small details at least 0.8 mm.
- Size: up to about 300 x 300 x 300 mm. Bigger models can sometimes be split into parts. Ask us first.
- We don't design or repair models unless you've accepted a quote for it. Problems caused by the model itself aren't covered.
- Clicky name keychains don't need a file. Just choose your name and colours on our custom order page.
